The MOEB <\/strong>has been digging through its archives to find telling objects, documents, and the life-stories of women. In the history <\/em>of the recording industry in Montreal, as elsewhere, women were overshadowed by men, especially in the first fifty years of music reproduction. Part of our treasure includes stories about women organising labour in the factories that made records, about the great talents who were recorded and promoted from the industry\u2019s epi-centre, Montreal!<\/p>\n

Curated by <\/strong>Anja Borck, with MOEB researcher Anna Waschuk. The exhibition is subsidized by the Montreal Heritage program: Patrimoine Montr\u00e9al : mise en valeur des quartiers, financed by the City of Montreal and the Government of Quebec.<\/p>\n

\u201cMontreal shows its love for music. Female faces quickly come to mind as singers. But did women have other roles in Montreal’s music industry? In the Muse\u0301e des ondes Emile Berliner we found that women worked in all music companies and in all factories. There were many of them, but they remained largely anonymous. We invite you to discover the enormous importance of “Women in the Montreal Music Industry” through this exhibition. The show opens on February 1st 2024 for a period of one year.”<\/p>\n

  1. Women in Montreal\u2019s Music Industry <\/strong>– curated by Dr. Anja Borck, museum director and art historian, from the extensive archives of the MOEB!<\/li>\n
  2. The Irish Room <\/strong>\/ Femmes sonores <\/strong>– guest artist Jo-Anne Velin\u2019s immersive sound installation, 1-23 February.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
