{"id":1754,"date":"2021-07-30T11:49:27","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T15:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/moeb.ca\/hesm\/studio-tempo-1972-2003\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T10:18:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T14:18:05","slug":"studio-tempo-1972-2003","status":"publish","type":"hesm","link":"https:\/\/moeb.ca\/en\/hsrm\/studio-tempo-1972-2003\/","title":{"rendered":"Studio Tempo (1972-2003)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When <em>Studio Tempo<\/em> opened its doors in 1972, it became Montreal\u2019s second state-of-the-art installation, designed by Tom Hidley of the world-famous <em>Westlake Audio <\/em>of Los Angeles. It boasted custom <em>Westlake<\/em> monitoring and a 24 input <em>Neve<\/em> console from England. It was also equipped with an <em>MCI <\/em>16-track recorder and <em>Dolby<\/em> Noise Reduction.&nbsp; In the first years, under the leadership of Technical director <strong>Tom Montgomery<\/strong> and chief engineer Michel Lachance, and later on Ian Terry, it was dedicated to staying at the forefront of technological advances. <em>Studio Tempo <\/em>was owned by three partners \u2013 musicians Yves Lapierre, Bernard Scott, and Fran\u00e7ois Cousineau, and was on the top floor of a building at 1422 McGill College.&nbsp; To keep up with technological demands of the internationally famous artists who recorded there, <em>Studio Tempo<\/em> became in 1974 the first 24-track facility in Montreal, with an <em>MCI<\/em> recorder.&nbsp; In 1976, it moved to a new location in a disused cinema at 0707 Charlevoix in Pointe-Saint-Charles and, a year later, purchased a new automated <em>Helios<\/em> console from England.&nbsp; In 1987, a second studio was added.&nbsp; In 2003, after nearly 30 years, the company was sold to <em>Groupe Modulations<\/em> and the studios converted to film and television post-production facilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recordists over the years have included Michel Lachance, Michel Ethier, Ian Terry, Bill Szawlowski, Paul Pag\u00e9, Denis Barsalo, Fran\u00e7ois Deschamps, Fran\u00e7ois Arbour and Frederique Grenon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Offenbach, April Wine, Diane Dufresne, Julie Arel, Johanne Blouin, Beau Dommage, David Bowie, Johnny Hallyday with Peter Frampton, Ran\u00e9e Lee, Harmonium, Marjo, Michel Pagliaro, Suzanne Stevens, Diana Krall and Toulouse are some of the artists and groups that have recorded at <em>StudioTempo<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Studio Tempo opened its doors in 1972, it became Montreal\u2019s second state-of-the-art installation, designed by Tom Hidley of the world-famous Westlake Audio of Los Angeles.
